The world of interior design is always shaking things up, bringing in cool ideas & fresh concepts for today’s homes.
Whether you’re gearing up for a new home or just want to give your place a facelift, keeping tabs on the latest interior design trends is the way to go.
These 7 trends will be very popular this year.
1. Biophilic Design
Firstly… what is biophilic design I can hear you asking!
Biophilic design is an innovative approach to architecture & design that aims to incorporate elements of nature into human made spaces. Connecting outside & inside.
The term “biophilia” refers to the inherent human tendency to connect with nature.
In examples of biophilic design, architects & designers use natural materials, colours, textures, & patterns, as well as incorporate features like plants, natural light & views of nature to create environments.
This all has positive impacts on our wellbeing, reduces stress & promotes a sense of connection with the natural world. It’s not just about making your place look good – it’s about creating a chill atmosphere & vibe that’s all about feeling good too.
2. Smart Homes for Contemporary Living
The era of smart homes is certainly here. Automation seamlessly woven into the fabric of modern living is the norm.
From automated lighting & heating/cooling control to advanced security systems & voice-activated assistants, technology is an integral part of contemporary home design.
This area is something that buyers are putting a high proprietary on when searching for their new home.
3. Flexible & Multi-Functional Spaces
Traditional room definitions are evolving as we embrace more adaptable living arrangements. Multi-functional spaces that can seamlessly transform into a home office, gym, or entertainment area are highly desirable.
Developers are responding with solutions like sliding walls, modular furniture & convertible spaces to cater to this evolving trend. These trends also go hand in hand with the overall size of some new properties.
Designs are getting cleverer with their versatility as cost & size restraints play their role.
4. Sustainable & Eco-Friendly Design
The environmental consciousness wave is impacting real estate trends.
Buyers are seeking energy efficient homes featuring eco-friendly materials, solar panels & rainwater tanks.
I’ve been saying for a little while now that ‘energy & green’ are the next big thing to be vitally important in buyer’s eyes.
Properties with next generation home battery systems, electric car infrastructure & features like advanced water retention systems are all going to be high on buyer’s shopping lists over the next 5-10 years.
This is also starting to penetrate, albeit slowly, into building materials. The dark coloured roofs of newer estates are slowly becoming lighter in an effort to keep temperatures & energy costs down & not a moment too soon!
5. Natural & Earthy Colour Palettes
Neutral & earthy colour schemes are gaining prominence, fostering a sense of calm & tranquillity within living spaces. Tones of green, beige & softened colours are being employed to establish a connection with nature.
This trend not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of homes but also contributes to a more serene & relaxed atmosphere.
This is where we circle back to point 1.
6. Bold Lighting Statements
Bold lighting is taking centerstage with eye catching features stealing the spotlight (yes, pun intended).
Oversized pendants, stylish chandeliers & unique floor lamps don’t just light up the space but also bring a touch of artistic flair & functionality.
7. Outdoor Living
The significance of outdoor living spaces has always been important in Australian culture.
However, we are seeing the evolution of these traditional spaces with new elements such as rooftop gardens, fully functional outdoor kitchens & more versatile entertaining spaces.
Overall the aim is to extend the living & entertaining experiences from the interior with a more seamless transition between indoor & outdoor spaces.
